Per usual, I'm taking a universally hip hop approach to this review. How is Noa James contributing to the forward movement of the culture? UNWARRANTED SELFLESSNESS. The refreshingly original MC had every opportunity (and right, for that matter) to self-promote last night; he let the transcendental spirit of Hip Hop do his PR instead. From cyphers to showcasing his peers, Noa James played the Moon: he let other artists shine, and inadvertently glowed in the process. That's a respect for the art that's reminiscent of a Native Tongues-style brotherhood. That is hip hop. Oh, and guess what: the nigga brought flows too!The title track is a banger, no doubt, but I want to salute the INSANE collaboration on "Blow". Once you hear it, if you're not authentically from the Inland Empire, you'll be tryna claim that shit like you've been doing Brooklyn for the past few years. (Where are you really from anyway?) Living through this LP I experienced the hunger of a beast, the desperation to cry out, and the triumph that was always incased in my eternal being.
When Nas said Hip Hop was dead, I got nervous. I didn't feel it in my heart, and now I definitely won't let that thought enter my mind. The Inland Empire has given the culture mouth to mic resuscitation and Noa James is CPR certified.
